So who the heck is the new skipper?
Five days before the (not so) big KO and STILL no announcement! Bear in mind the role of a club captain isn't just during a match, it's also in and around the club on a daily basis, so this just adds to the utter shambles that the club is right now.

One logical reason could be that Moyes will offer the armband to JWP or Maguire if and when they come in?

Don't know if that's true about JWP, but I do remember Lucas Neill later blaming the pressure of his captaincy duties for his poor form one season.

Sure I saw a Southampton fan say somewhere that JWP didn't really like being skipper... he didn't like the extra pressure (or something?).

Re: So who the heck is the new skipper?
southbankbornandbred,

You’re right, it would be very difficult for JWP to be the captain after all that’s gone on.

But, it’s extreme circumstances, from the perspective that you don’t normally lose your captain, straight after winning a trophy (although, of course, it was always on the cards).

I imagine Moyes must have had JWP or Maguire in mind, otherwise surely he’d just pick someone else already on the books.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

To the tune of ‘Our House’ by Madness.

Re: So who the heck is the new skipper?
Going to have to be JWP, isn't it?

He has a track record as a captain, despite Southampton's relegation. Unlike almost everybody else in the squad.

It's a lot to ask of a new signing, though, isn't it? Take over the captaincy of a club that has just won a trophy, but which is in a bit of a mess domestically and is struggling to bring in new talent.

Suppose it has to be?

I think we'll see how important a captains role is under these new rules where only they can approach the ref.

''Am I missing anything else they do?''

Yes, they have duties in and around the club on a daily basis as the club captain, or at least that's what Noble always use to like telling us. But agree, it's not as important as say it is in cricket for example.

Am I missing anything lese they do?"

Become one of many new trendy cliches that people have read or heard and convinced themselves it's true. Just because a few national teams have decided to give the armband to the player with most caps, doesn't mean the role of club captain isn't a huge thing. It very much is.

This is in unison with new trendy tactical phrases that people use to pretend they know more about the game than they actually do. If someone says 'low block' in my presence, I'll stick a nut on them. It's 10 men behind the fucking ball, you try hard cunt.

So Alvarez takes Decs old spot, McTominay replaces Soucek, immediately made captain.

Mcguire re-inforces the Defense.

Callagher and Broja our new attacking options, Bowen down the right Cornet down the left.

Wembley here we come!

Re: So who the heck is the new skipper?
Pretty much bottom of the list in terms of things to fix.

Yep call the toss of a coin is about the sum of it.

The annoying arm band being passed around, like when Noble use to come on has sub, Rice would have to pass it on to him. Like some game for girls.

Brady to introduce "Captain for a Quid" scheme where anyone can buy a chance to be captain for a game. Drawing made just before kickoff.

I would think the skip is the one to call the ref a cunt under the new rules?

Re: So who the heck is the new skipper?
I used to think the same, Pee Wee,

But I think NOBES has shown me that its a bit more than just calling a coin toss. I think we missed him after he retired and Rice had to step up.

Given we're likely to have an influx of players this window, I'd say it was especially important to have a decent captain to help them settle into the squad.

Agree the club is a shambles and it should have been sorted by now.

Re: So who the heck is the new skipper?
It is clearly related to the lack of signings. In my opinion it was going to be JWP but Sullivan wouldn't stump the cash.
As ever we dont have a plan b and will rush into one for the weekend.
It'll be Fab or Aguerd, i'd prefer the latter purely on the basis of him playing every game when fit and settled in very quickly.

Re: So who the heck is the new skipper?
Like with most transitions, it is immediately obviously who would follow on from one captain to another - see Noble>Rice.

However, with the current shit show we have on offer, there is no guessing who will it will switch to. I don't see many leaders out there at all. Who would you trust in that starting eleven to grab the bull by the horns?

I wouldn't back any of them. Majority of them are gutless, the pre season has showed us that. There is not much spirit in that dressing room, despite all the celebrations that went on only a couple of months ago.

If I had to pick anyone, I'd probably go with Coufal, at least for his grit if nothing else.
